Andre Iguodala has been in the NBA for a very long time at this point. Iggy was drafted all the way back in 2004 by the Sixers, and he has had a fine 18-year career. He was an All-Star back in 2012, has made multiple NBA All-Defense teams, won 4 championships, and got his hands on that Finals MVP trophy in 2015.
At this advanced stage of his career, he isn’t much of a factor on the court, however, as he barely featured for the Warriors last season as they went on to win the title. Despite that, he is still held in very high regard within the organization due to his leadership and locker room presence, just like Udonis Haslem is with the Miami Heat.
Marc Stein Says The Warriors Expect Andre Iguodala To Play For One More Season
While Haslem confirmed that he will be coming back for another season, Iguodala hasn’t decided on his future just yet. The Warriors have kept their final roster spot open for Iguodala as they would love to have him back, and NBA insider Marc Stein states that they are expecting him to return for another season.
“The Warriors, I’m told, do expect Iguodala to play for one more season but are prepared for any outcome, and are also open to bringing the 18-year veteran back on his timetable.”
It shows how much they respect him, that they are giving him all the time he needs to make this decision. If he does decide to retire, you would think the Warriors would try to keep him around in some kind of role, as his presence means a lot to that group of players.
While Iguodala’s future is out of their control, the Warriors would be hoping to find a way to tie down their stars, who are still a factor on the court. Jordan Poole and Andrew Wiggins, their two breakout stars from last season, are eligible for extensions this summer, but no agreement has been reached with either so far.
While there is no impending deadline when it comes to Wiggins, that is not the case for Poole. If the team is unable to sign him to an extension by the 17th of October, then he will become a restricted free agent next summer and will almost certainly find someone who would be willing to pay him the max. Another matter to consider before either of these two get signed is an extension for Draymond Green if he opts out of his player option next summer, so the front office has a lot to think about at the moment.
