LeBron James is one of the greatest in the history of basketball, and Serena Williams is one of the greatest in the history of tennis. As a result, the GOATs have given decades of entertainment to people around the world through their excellence on the court, be it an NBA court or a tennis court.
LeBron is going to enter his 20th season in 2022-23 and will hope to scale the championship mountain once again and try to reach the pinnacle. The roster doesn’t look ready for that task, even if they just added Patrick Beverley. However, we have seen LeBron make incredible things happen with less before.
Serena Williams is not going to be competing over the course of the next year as she is retiring at the 2022 US Open. Easily the greatest female tennis star of all time, Williams was a groundbreaker for both women and Black athletes in the sport. Her retirement has LeBron upset, as he tweeted about her needing to ‘keep her serve going’.

LBJ tweeted the same during Williams’s first-round matchup against Danka Kovinić from Montenegro. Williams took home a straightforward victory, winning her game 6-3 in two sets. She will be facing Anett Kontaveit from Estonia in the second round, and hope for a fairytale run all the way to the Finals and possibly retire by winning a major Open.
LeBron still has about a month of the offseason to enjoy. He already shared pictures of his 2 sons returning to school as Bryce and Bronny enter their final and sophomore years, respectively.
A big season is coming ahead for LeBron, where he has the opportunity to prove a lot of people wrong. Much like Serena, we have never seen an athlete like LeBron in the NBA before. If he can show the same unparalleled longevity as the tennis star on the basketball court, LeBron may have a much stronger case to call himself the GOAT over the long run.
