Klay Thompson is well-known for being one of the greatest shooters of all time. He makes up half of the Splash Brothers alongside Stephen Curry, and the duo has had a lot of success together.

However, there was once a time when Klay Thompson could have played a different sport. In an interview with Natasha Dye of People, Klay Thompson’s brother Trayce Thompson revealed that Klay Thompson was “a really good quarterback”, and added that he was “surprised” when his brother “quit football as early as he did”.

And with all of Klay’s varied interests, Trayce was pretty surprised when his brother pursued professional basketball over football.

“I thought he was going to play football,” Trayce says. “He doesn’t talk about a lot anymore, but he was a really good quarterback.”

Although Klay’s initial choice to pursue basketball confused his brother, Trayce says he’s not surprised at all at his success with the Golden State Warriors. “I was surprised he quit football as early as he did, but I wasn’t surprised he has done what he’s done,” says Trayce.

There have been a number of NBA players that were also proficient at football earlier in their lives. The most notable example is LeBron James, who played football in high school and was compared to legendary receiver Randy Moss. Dual sports athletes aren’t rare in the United States. Perhaps Klay Thompson could have also been a legendary quarterback in the NFL, but that is something that we’ll never find out.

Things have certainly worked out for Klay Thompson, though, as he has made plenty of money and won multiple championships during his NBA career with the Golden State Warriors. There is no doubt that he has had a successful time in the league, and there is a chance that he will win even more championships in the future.
