The Minnesota Timberwolves finally ended their playoff drought of three years in the 2021-22 NBA season. The team was led by the terrific trip of Karl-Anthony Towns, Anthony Edwards, and D’Angelo Russell who played phenomenally in the regular season to book their place in the postseason.
Although the T-Wolves lost in the opening round of the playoffs, it is better than missing the playoffs. Right now, the Timberwolves have very little to improve on the offensive end of the court. But they need a lot of improvement on the defensive end.
A huge reason they couldn’t go deep into the playoffs was the lack of a defensive anchor on the team. Someone who is not only a phenomenal defender himself but also has the ability to guide others when required.
Well, it seems like the new president of basketball operations, Tim Connelly, is aware of that. According to a new report, the Timberwolves have shown interest in none other than the 3-time DPOY winner and Utah Jazz superstar Rudy Gobert.
“The Timberwolves are showing interest in Rudy Gobert and Clint Capela to pair alongside Karl-Anthony Towns, per @KevinOConnorNBA.”

As revealed in the aforementioned tweet, the franchise could also try getting Clint Capela along with Rudy Gobert to pair up with Karl-Anthony Towns. But the question remains, how will they acquire Gobert?
All their efforts will go in vain if they have to give up Anthony Edwards to get Gobert. The only way it could work is through a trade package around D’Angelo Russell.
Now, many reports have suggested that the Jazz might break up the duo of Rudy and Donovan Mitchell, but they surely wouldn’t accept Russell as the main asset for either of their superstars.
Russell is a good player on his day, but he is not very good at the defensive end of the court. Anyway, at this point in time, these are nothing but rumors. It is hard to comment on what the future holds for the Timberwolves and their pursuit of Gobert.
