“Just in: Marc Lore and Alex Rodriguez have submitted signed financial documentation to NBA to complete the acquisition of majority controlling ownership of the Minnesota Timberwolves and Lynx from Glen Taylor, multiple sources with direct knowledge told me,” wrote Shams. “Dyal Capital Partners has joined as a pre-approved investor in the Lore-Rodriguez group, giving them the final financial backing necessary to complete the transaction, sources said. Lore and Rodriguez are ready to close the sale as soon as NBA approves.”
This sale has been years in the making, with the first announcement coming as far back as 2021, when the former Yankees star first revealed his plans to purchase the team for $1.5 billion. Rodriguez, a baseball legend around the world, had no official ties to the Timberwolves. Still, he and his business partner, Marc Lore, have been operating as a “limited partner” with Taylor for two and a half years as the succession process has played out.
Things got to a point where Rodriguez had to put a hold on his offer as he scrambled to come up with the money, but it seems he’s found another partner to add to his investment group.
As a franchise perpetually stuck in mediocrity, most Timberwolves fans couldn’t be happier that this deal is finally going through.
