Anthony Davis is undoubtedly one of the best big men in the game today but the fact of the matter is that there always seems to be something wrong with him. Davis was dealing with some back issues at the start of the season, then went down with an illness and the game against the Nuggets saw yet another injury.

In the first half, Davis seemed to have hurt his foot when he attempted to score on a layup against Nikola Jokic. He grimaced as he came down but to his credit, carried on and played the rest of the half. That was as far as he could go though, as he didn’t return for the second half and news soon came out that he won’t return to the game.

“Anthony Davis (right foot injury) will not return tonight”

The Lakers will be hoping that this isn’t a long-term thing, as they need desperately need him on the court. He has been the biggest reason why they have somewhat of a respectable record after that awful start and if he misses a significant period of time, they will slide down the standings once again. They have played well against the Nuggets without him though and hold a lead in the fourth quarter.

Paul Pierce Says Anthony Davis Is The Only Player Who Can Match Up With Giannis Antetokoumpo

Davis’ exploits this season have led to him receiving a ton of praise from opponents and the media alike. Celtics legend Paul Pierce recently said that Davis is the only player who can match up with Giannis Antetokounmpo and he is probably right. Davis gave Giannis and the Bucks the business when they last faced off as well, scoring 44 to lead the Lakers to a win.

They have been probably a bit too dependent on him at times, but this performance against the Nuggets has shown they have the capability to at least play well without him. No matter what happens at the end, they have more than held their own against a top seed in the Western Conference without AD and can take a lot of positives out of this performance.
