Anthony Edwards is just 22 years old, but fans have massive expectations from him. After he earned his first All-Star nod in the 2022-23 season, Edwards has been hard at work this summer and is also a part of Team USA’s roster for the FIBA World Cup.

Initially, Anthony Edwards wasn’t supposed to start for the team, which raised a lot of eyebrows. Now that he has become a starter, though, there has been chatter about him being the leader of the team. Edwards has given his blunt take on that narrative.

“I can score the ball. I don’t care about the leader,” Edwards said to Bally Sports. “That’s what I do, I score the ball. So, why would I come out here and try to do something else?”

Anthony Edwards scored 15 points in Team USA’s first preparation game against Puerto Rico, helping his team win the game with ease. He averaged 24.6 points per game on 45.9% from the field and 36.9% from three-point range for the Minnesota Timberwolves last season too, Edwards knows exactly what his game is all about.

Anthony Edwards Is Already A Leader For The Minnesota Timberwolves

Whether he is a leader for Team USA or not doesn’t matter much. Anthony Edwards has already grown into a leader for the Minnesota Timberwolves. When asked about his goals for the coming season, Edwards spoke about what the entire team needs to do, exactly like a leader would.

“I just have team goals. All the individual stuff will come when you win as a team. We wanna win 50 games this year,” Ant said in an interview with Shams Charania. “We wanna get KAT to an MVP level this year.

“We want Rudy [Gobert] to be the Defensive Player of the Year. We just want all the things that’s supposed to be. We’re gonna work for it. This year, we’re gonna be a lot better.”

A lot of NBA superstars like Stephen Curry believe that Anthony Edwards is special. At 22 years of age, he has the chance to grow into one of the faces of the NBA. And the road to that could begin with a massive FIBA World Cup for Team USA later this month.
