Kyle Lowry had an excellent bounce-back game against the Boston Celtics in Game 6 despite fouling out late in the game. Lowry had 18 points and 10 assists in the game, a great improvement on his completely ineffective Game 5 performance. However, there was a moment during the game where he was down after trying to draw a charge that led to quite a bit of hilarity online; not the only one from Lowry either.
Lowry is known for taking charges whenever he can on the defensive end to create turnovers, and a large part of getting foul calls in the modern NBA is exaggerating the contact and selling the foul a bit. While Lowry didn’t quite get what he wanted on this particular play, he stayed down on the floor for a while after.
When players fall on the ground, the area is usually mopped up quite a bit, although it usually happens after a prone player is attended to and moved from the place where he had fallen. A Celtics staff member, however, simply started mopping around the prone Lowry as if simply waiting for him to get up, with many fans thinking that it was quite a savage move from the staffer:
“The Celtics staff know what they’re doing.”
“Someone give this staff member a raise.”
“That is straight savagery, man.”
“Even this guy knows Kyle was playing it up.”
“Man, Lowry was fine, this guy’s just doing his job.”
“Kyle Lowry and Marcus Smart both need this treatment.”
“Even the mop guy knows a flop when he sees one, could teach the refs some stuff.”
“This is absolutely hilarious, just get up, Kyle.”
“That’s just disrespectful.”
“Man, Lowry gets no sympathy from this dude lol.”
“More of this in the NBA, can’t stand it when they just lie there without serious injuries.”
Lowry was fine to play after, which is what makes the situation fairly funny. Any of the cleaning staff should know not to do that when a player is generally down injured. As it stands, Lowry is unlikely to feel too bad about it, considering that the Heat won, and perhaps it will put him off from exaggerating contact in the future to avoid moments like these.
