As the Ja Morant situation plays out in Memphis, fans, analysts, and former players from across the country have been chiming in to offer their own take on how Morant, and the Grizzlies, should move forward.
On Thursday night, Charles Barkley became the latest to call out Ja with this statement on ‘Inside the NBA’ before the Grizzlies’ showdown against the defending champions.
“To have one of our brightest stars have three gun incidents is way over the limit. I hope the kid grows up and matures and gets better people around him,” said Chuck. “I think one of the reasons Adam Silver has been quiet — I think the Grizzlies are like, ‘hey, he’s out. He’s going to be out at least four more games, we’re not gonna just pat him on the wrist and throw him back out there. But it’s time for Ja Morant to grow up. Man, you can’t screw this up. You’re one of the best basketball players we got in this league, you’re one of the new faces of our league, and you’re out here acting like a damn fool and idiot. It’s not all on him, it’s the people around him.”
Barkley has never been one to mince his words, and he definitely didn’t water down his message to Ja. But Barkley did more than just condemn the All-Star guard, he also gave him some valuable advice.
“Being famous ain’t easy, especially now. With all these video cameras and you got to really surround yourself with adults. I feel bad about the situation because I don’t know the kid…”

We don’t yet know when Ja will return or what he’ll have to say when he does come back, but the Grizzlies have no choice but to press on without him and hope this time off is enough for him to get his mind right.
What’s Next For Ja Morant?
It could be weeks before we see Ja suit up again this season, but he seems to have accepted the process and is working to adjust his behavior. If he can leave the scandals behind him and stop waving guns around for the world to see, the Grizzlies should be able to re-establish themselves as a true contender in the West.
But until we see Ja complete his comeback process and accept accountability for his actions, nobody is going to bet on this Grizzlies team.
Hopefully, this experience has humbled Morant, and he can come out of this as a better leader, player, and person.
