Suns fans weren’t able to enjoy Kevin Durant for more than a few games before he went down with his latest injury.
This time, it happened during pre-game warmups ahead of his home debut this week. Ruled with a left ankle sprain from a slip and fall on the court, Shams Charania reported today that he will be re-evaluated in two weeks.
“Phoenix Suns star Kevin Durant is expected to be re-evaluated in two weeks with his left ankle sprain and return based on rehab progress, sources tell The Athletic and Stadium. Swelling has gone down in the ankle, which Durant injured slipping in pregame warmups Wednesday.”
With the NBA regular season nearly at an end, many Suns fans were wondering if Durant would return at all this season, considering his age and the fact that he just recently returned from another leg injury.
The Suns and Durant are hopeful of progress during the re-evaluation window that allows for the 13-time All-Star to return to action shortly after two weeks, sources said. Good news for KD and Phoenix following scary fall in warmups. https://t.co/BJmSPdBwMx

A two-week timetable will put Durant’s return with just a few weeks left until the playoffs. In this scenario, the Suns would have time to ease KD back into the flow before the first round, which could be a matchup against the Golden State Warriors.
Can Kevin Durant Lead Suns To A Title?
KD’s arrival elevated the Suns to a whole different level of contention,m but they are far from a perfect team. Without guys like Mikal Bridges and Cam Johnson, Phoenix no longer has the depth they did during their run to the NBA Finals a few years ago.
What they do have is star power and a guy in Kevin Durant who can go off for 35 or 40 points on any given night. No matter what seed the Suns finish as this season, they are confident in their title chances this season.
“I think everybody’s competitive levels have risen a little bit,” said Deandre Ayton. “The atmosphere around the facility has, I don’t want to say got intense, but it’s definitely a little dense when it comes to handling business. Ain’t no more playing games. Less smiles, more seriousness.”
The good news is, the Suns will get Kevin Durant back relatively soon and they are good enough on their own to hold down the fort in his absence.
But Durant will have to stay healthy from here on out if the Suns want to come out of the wild Western Conference this season. That’s probably why the team is being extra cautious with his return to the court.
