Chris Paul Says He’s Not Retiring After Losing NBA Finals: “Get Back To Work. I Ain’t Retiring.”

Chris Paul finished the 2020/21 NBA season with a big loss in the Finals. The point guard couldn’t complete the job, as his Phoenix Suns succumbed to the Milwaukee Bucks in six games.

It is a painful defeat for a team that defied the odds but couldn’t take that last step to reach glory. After the game and the series were over, CP3 talked with reporters, explaining how it felt to lose an NBA Finals and what’s next for him.

The Point God made it clear that he’s not retiring, and he’s looking forward to returning to work for the next season.

“It will take a while to process this or whatnot, but it’s same mentality,” Paul said, via ESPN’s Dave McMenamin. “Get back to work. I ain’t retiring, if that’s what you’re asking. That’s out. So, back to work.”

“Right now, you’re just trying to figure out what you could have done more,” Paul said. “It’s tough. Great group of guys, hell of a season, but this one is going to hurt for a while.”

Phoenix had a magical playoff run, beating the defending champions Los Angeles Lakers in the first round, then sweeping the 2021 MVP Nikola Jokic in the Western Conference semifinals before taking care of business against a difficult Los Angeles Clippers team.

They couldn’t do the same against the Giannis Antetokounmpo-led Bucks, missing a big chance to win the NBA championship. The fairytale didn’t have a happy ending for the Suns, but they’re ready to run it back next season.

It’s unclear if Paul will be with the team by then, but the 36-year-old will do anything to return to the Finals. CP3 averaged 21.8 points, 8.2 assists, and 2.7 rebounds in 6 games in the 2021 edition.
