CJ McCollum Defends Golden State Warriors Following Lopsided Blowout

2 Min Read

The Golden State Warriors have been a dynasty for what seems like a whole era. Only three short years ago, they were still at the peak of greatness, winning the 2017-18 NBA championship. In a league where a lot of a team’s public perception comes from winning at the highest level, the Warriors have been viewed as a stellar franchise. Despite the amazing management, one can’t always plan for injuries or players leaving in free agency.

The Warriors have elected to go with a young athletic roster around Stephen Curry: players like Andrew Wiggins and Kelly Oubre Jr., have been billed as potential elite two-way players for the future. However, after their lopsided loss to the Trail Blazers, some on Twitter have been at force, criticizing the rest of the Warriors’ roster beyond Stephen Curry. CJ McCollum, their opponent on the Trail Blazers was having none of it.

Andrew Wiggins, Kelly Oubre Jr., and Draymond Green are all elite players who have their strengths. As CJ McCollum said, all of these guys had done something to make it to the NBA, and deserve their contracts. Green is a former DPOY and All-Star, and the other players are still prospects with potential. Wiggins in particular has looked better on the defensive end, though it may not show in the box score.

It is good to see CJ McCollum show good sportsmanship to an opponent that he beat. The Warriors’ chemistry should improve throughout the season, and as an NBA player, McCollum can tell when a team should become better over the course of the season. Plenty of teams have bad records at the start of the season, only to make the playoffs after multiple good stretches. The Golden State Warriors could easily be one of those playoff teams.
