The Los Angeles Lakers will heave a sigh of relief after knowing the status of their newly-acquired point guard, D’Angelo Russell’s injury during the clash against the Golden State Warriors.

Russell went down in the first quarter after he stepped on Donte DiVincenzo’s foot as he was inbounding the ball. The freak injury saw him crumple on the hardwood in pain and he exited the game. Diagnosed with a right ankle sprain, he was ruled out for the remainder of the game. However, Lakers Insider Dan Wokie gave a promising injury update.

“Sore. Any other ankle injury the same thing. Sore, try and bounce back tomorrow and see how it feels. Get some meds in me, some rehab. Be alright.” – D’Angelo Russell on his ankle. Said it was “wrong place, wrong time.”

With a rather tight schedule in the coming week, LA will need a healthy Russell on the floor. The team is off for two days before squaring off against the Dallas Mavericks and that gives him ample time to heal and recover. The Lakers will consider themselves fortunate that the injury wasn’t serious.

Malik Beasley Steps Up For D’Angelo Russell With A Crucial Performance

While Russell’s injury came as a dampener for the side, it was sharpshooter Malik Beasley who chipped in with a pivotal 25 points, coupled with 3 rebounds and 1 assist.

If Russell was the hero of the side’s last game against the Pelicans, Beasley was 7-of-11 from beyond the arc and 9-of-16 from the field. And it served the Lakers well on a day their two stars LeBron James and Anthony Davis had an average day out with 13 and 12 points respectively.

The Lakers certainly seem to have made the right acquisitions adding more shooters to the mix, thereby addressing their biggest woes. Only time will tell if they have a fit and ready Russell suiting up and helping them win as many games as they can to make the playoffs.
