Every father wants their sons to be great, and some do so from a very young age. This seems to be the case with Stephen Curry, who had to prove his father wrong after he criticized his shooting as a baby.
When he was really young, Steph had a mini rim where he practices some shots. Old footage shows that Curry wasn’t always the great shooter he is right now and struggled a bit. His father, of course, was there to remind him he needed to do better.
Narrator: “Young Stephen may not know it now, basketball may be his future.”
Dell Curry: “Well, we started him out in Reeboks, he’s in the right shoewear. We got a couple balls floating around, he laughs a lot when I bounce them around so hopefully he’ll pursue it too.”
Stephen Curry: *tries to shoot the ball and misses*
Dell Curry: “Come on, man, you gotta make the first shot. You’re shooting bricks, man.”

Those words helped Steph, who grew up to become the greatest shooter of all time, surpassing his father and establishing himself as one of the 15 best players in NBA history.
He went from shooting bricks to making ridiculous shots every night, shocking the world in the process. As we speak, Curry has made 3,390 3-pointers in his career, with career averages of 47.5% from the field, 42.8% from beyond the arc, and 90.9% from the free-throw line.
It wasn’t an easy journey, but Steph made it, and he’s still trying to add more records and accolades to his resume.
Stephen Curry Has Had A Close Relationship With His Father
Steph and his father have always been close, even though they were always competing against each other. The Golden State Warriors legend once beat his old man in high school, which prompted Dell to never face Steph or his brother Seth again.
He’s been there every step of the way, even putting aside his personal problems with ex-wife Sonya Curry to celebrate Steph getting his 4th NBA championship last year. Their relationship didn’t end the best way, but they were mature enough to be there for their kid, and Steph was really grateful for that.
This season, the job is even harder to accomplish, as the Warriors aren’t as strong as last year. If Steph and co. can turn things around, the Warriors will be a threat, but right now, that seems unlikely unless they’re playing at Chase Center.
