DeMar DeRozan Will Have To Settle For Massive Paycut If He Joins Miami Heat

2 Min Read

The Miami Heat have pulled off the biggest move of free agency so far, bringing in All-Star guard Kyle Lowry in a sign-and-trade deal with Toronto.

And now, they apparently have their eyes set on bringing in DeMar DeRozan as well.

Unfortunately for the organization (given the limitations of their current financial situation) signing him would likely involve DeRozan taking a major pay cut

The Miami Heat are still trying to acquire DeMar DeRozan, but it would likely require a significant reduction in salary compared to what he can get elsewhere, according to 5RSN sources

The financial limbo involved in snagging DeRozan won’t be easy, especially because Miami isn’t the only team with interest in him.

As a solid and capable veteran who can handle both ends of the floor, he can be a real difference-maker for any team, but especially for Miami. After making a deep run in 2020, injuries and roster flaws caught up with them in the 2021 campaign, leading to a crushing first-round exit at the hands of the Milwaukee Bucks.

Adding Lowry and, maybe, DeRozan to their lineup would make them a team to fear in the East, capable of competing against the very best.

Of course, we don’t yet know where DeRozan will land, or if a reunion with Lowry will ever happen.

Last season with the Spurs, he averaged 21.6 points, 6.9 assists, and 4.2 rebounds per game 49.5% shooting.
