Dennis Schroder has been in the news for quite some time now. The former Los Angeles Lakers guard just recently signed a 1-year $5.9 million contract with the Boston Celtics. Schroder has become the subject of intense mockery on the internet because of his contract negotiations.
The Los Angeles Lakers traded for Schroder at the start of last season. Schroder came to LA with only one year left on his contract. In an effort to secure him for the future, the Lakers offered him a 4-year $84 million contract extension.
But Schroder rejected the contract extension because he felt that he could have a good season with the Lakers and leverage more money, close to $100 million in the open market. One analyst even questioned this decision, wondering where he got the idea that he could get a $100 million contract. Schroder proceeded to have a mediocre season with the Lakers, where he had very few good performances.
Then in the 2021 NBA Playoffs, Schroder performed poorly against the Suns, as the Lakers were knocked out in the first round. Schroder’s market value fell greatly, and he had to wait quite a lot of time before the Celtics came in with a much smaller contract.
Because of this, the internet has been having a lot of fun at Schroder’s expense. And now, his wife has decided to hit back at the critics. Schroder’s wife Ellen took to Instagram to post a story declaring how proud she is of her husband for betting on himself.
Even though things didn’t go the way he wanted them to, she thinks he was right to do so. Beyond that, she also told fans to watch out as Schroder will redeem himself and do what needs to be done.

“I’m so proud of my husband that he made this decision to stay true to himself and to fight for his goals and his vision. I know not everyone understand this… They would choose money before anything else… But let me tell you: Show some love, be patient and watch what happens next.”
Schroder will spend the next year with the Celtics playing back-up to Marcus Smart. This will be similar to the role he played with OKC two seasons ago, where he was the third option behind Chris Paul and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. If Schroder can perform well with the Celtics, he can capitalize on his value and sign a big contract, even if it is not as big as the $100 million he was after.
