Drake recently performed at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, a concert that was attended by LeBron James and his son Bronny, among others. On the night, he told a wonderful story about him, Lil Wayne, and Kobe Bryant.

“When I was first coming up, I’m from a place called Toronto, Canada, by the way,” Drake said. “And the first place I ever moved in my life when I had to move away from home. The first place that ever took me in was Los Angeles, California.

“And I’ll never forget, the day I got flown down to get signed. I was on Lil Wayne’s tour bus. He told me, ‘I got this album coming out, it’s called Tha Carter III, I wanna play it for you. But we gotta wait for somebody to get here first.’

“So I waited on the bus, about half an hour, an hour later, this tall figure walks through the bus, right through the doorway of the bus and it’s Kobe Bryant. That day I got to sit there and listen to Tha Carter III with Kobe in LA.”

Drake signed with Lil Wayne’s label, Young Money Entertainment in 2009, and the rest became history. He is now one of the most popular artists alive, and it’s amazing to think that Kobe Bryant was there the night it all began for him.

Drake Thanked LeBron James For Supporting Him Early In His Career Too

Drake should have known he was destined for greatness when one GOAT candidate was there the night he got signed, and another was already a fan. During the same concert, he revealed LeBron James’ support for him and thanked him for it too

“The gentleman that walked me to stage tonight is my brother. He goes by the name of LeBron James. And in 2009, when nobody believed in anything I had going on, that same guy showed up to a release party for a mixtape that was called So Far Gone.

“He came all the way to Toronto, Canada to support me when I was trying to figure out how I can live my dreams.”

It’s incredible to think how interconnected the NBA has become with popular culture, especially with hip-hop. Seeing all these legends in their field grow together and hearing their stories is always inspirational, to say the least.
