The Golden State Warriors traded for Chris Paul ahead of the 2023 NBA Draft, in a deal that included promising young guard Jordan Poole. The move was clearly done from a business perspective, but Paul also gives the team a veteran who can carry their bench unit.

If the team ends up retaining Draymond Green, there might be some friction in the locker room. In 2020, Draymond Green admitted that he dislikes Chris Paul, noting that their relationship isn’t good whatsoever.

“I don’t like CP at all, we don’t have a good relationship at all. but I respect his hustle and I respect his IQ… I took it upon myself to create division there [between Chris Paul and Steph Curry.”

Of course, it is quite possible that the relationship between Draymond Green and Chris Paul has improved since this video. Even if it isn’t a good personal relationship though, we can expect both Paul and Green to be professionals about the matter if Green is still on the Warriors after free agency.

This past regular season, Chris Paul averaged 13.9 PPG, 4.3 RPG, and 8.9 APG for the Phoenix Suns. He is still a quality player that can be a contributor on a championship team, and we’ll see if he gets to win his first ring with the Golden State Warriors.

Stephen A. Smith Doesn’t Like The Chris Paul Move For The Warriors

There is no doubt that the Warriors’ move for Chris Paul has some detractors. One of those people is Stephen A. Smith, who claimed that he hates it “from a basketball standpoint”.

“I did not like it one bit and I love me some CP3…I don’t like this from a basketball standpoint…This is a business move… I don’t see how this makes it better and I don’t see how this is an ideal fit…I thought they needed more size…in this situation, I don’t think it’s a good one.”

It remains to be seen how Chris Paul does on the Warriors. The team is no stranger to getting the best out of veterans though, and he could definitely be a fantastic fit within coach Steve Kerr’s system.
