The Golden State Warriors traded for point guard Chris Paul ahead of draft night, adding another veteran presence in their backcourt. Though Paul may end up being a good addition for them, it is clear that they could regret giving away young guard Jordan Poole.
After the trade happened, a lot of fans took to Twitter to voice their disapproval of this move. It seems as though fans are not the only ones who don’t like this trade, as analyst Stephen A. Smith recently stated that he doesn’t like the move from a basketball standpoint.
“I did not like it one bit and I love me some CP3…I don’t like this from a basketball standpoint…This is a business move… I don’t see how this makes it better and I don’t see how this is an ideal fit…I thought they needed more size…in this situation, I don’t think it’s a good one.”

There is no doubt that Chris Paul doesn’t necessarily address the Warriors’ pressing needs, despite being a good player. He doesn’t help the team with shot creation, which was an issue outside of Stephen Curry. Paul also doesn’t give the team any size in the frontcourt.
With that being said, Chris Paul will give the Warriors a different look coming off the bench behind Stephen Curry. Paul averaged 13.9 PPG, 4.3 RPG, and 8.9 APG for the Phoenix Suns last season, and it is clear that he can still be an impactful player.
The Warriors Plan To Make A Championship Run With Chris Paul
The Golden State Warriors clearly want to take advantage of Stephen Curry’s championship window, hence their trading for a veteran like Chris Paul. Though some expected Paul to get waived, it seems as though the team is going to keep him to try and make a championship run.
“Golden State will not waive Chris Paul and is looking forward to partnering with the star to make a championship run, league sources tell NBA on TNT, Bleacher Report.”
It remains to be seen if the Golden State Warriors will end up winning the 2024 championship. They definitely have the talent to win at the highest level, and it’ll be interesting to see how Chris Paul will fit into their system.
