Draymond Green was given a taste of his own medicine when he fell victim to a groin shot from Jarrett Allen during the Golden State Warriors loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers tonight. While fans rejoiced at Draymond’s misfortune, the former Defensive Player of the Year took to social media to blast how referees treated him after this incident.
“The Draymond Green rule is only a rule when Draymond Green is delivering… Cool.”

Draymond forced the league to crack down on groin shots in 2016 after he laid out Steven Adams with one in the Western Conference Finals and then LeBron James during the NBA Finals. He was fined $25,000 for the Adams foul and was suspended for a Finals game after doing the same to LeBron.
The kick from Allen didn’t seem intentional, but Draymond has previously claimed that his attacks on Adams and LeBron were in the flow of the play as well.

It’s highly unlikely that the league will come out and punish Allen for this. First, he has no track record of making dirty plays against his opponents, something the league always factors in when deciding these punishments.
This evaluation of past incidents is what prompts the league to punish players like Green severely. Whether it’s fair or not is another conversation, but the ‘Draymond Green’ rule applies to the star it’s named after due to a track record of such incidents.
The Warriors Have Had A Strong Start To The Season
Even after their loss at the hands of the Cavaliers tonight, the Warriors are currently 5-2 through their first seven games. This is good enough for third in the West right now, behind the Nuggets at one and the Mavericks at two. Golden State has a proven concept on the court already, with poor execution and chemistry being one of their biggest problems last season.
This season, the Warriors seem to have hit the perfect middle ground between having youthful talent and veteran talent for a better-fitting roster. There was a lack of veteran depth on the bench for the Warriors last season, as compared to their title-winning season where Nemanja Bjelica and Otto Porter Jr. were veteran voices for the bench. Last year, Jordan Poole was the bench veteran, which hurt the franchise overall.
Chris Paul‘s addition has led to the same thing on every franchise he’s ever been on, which is winning. Even if he can’t contribute on the court at the highest level anymore, there’s proof that his leadership always improves the team he joins after a season. The Warriors are on track to end the season with 48 wins or more, which would be a clear improvement from last season.
Stephen Curry is currently averaging 30.4 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 4.3 assists to open the season, putting his name in MVP conversations already.
Paul has been struggling to score, but his playmaking prowess is keeping the team incredibly competitive when teams are playing bench lineups. His averages of 7.6 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 8.0 assists are perfectly decent for someone of his age as his main contribution is coming in the locker room.
This team could solidify itself as the second-best team in the West behind the Nuggets, but only if they avoid poor injury luck.
