Draymond Green Can Only Be Handled By The Lakers And LeBron James, Says NBA Executive

An NBA executive suggests the Los Angeles Lakers could handle a potential trade for Draymond Green, but questions arise about its alignment with the team's interests.

According to an NBA executive, the Los Angeles Lakers are the only team equipped to handle a potential trade for Draymond Green, currently suspended from the Golden State Warriors after striking Jusuf Nurkic in a recent game.

“If you were to get him out of Golden State, there’s really only one team that could possibly trade for him. That’s the Lakers,” the executive said. “No one else could really handle what he’s bringing. LeBron James could. Draymond has been kissing up to LeBron for a couple of years now.

The executive acknowledges that LeBron James, a key figure for the Lakers, could manage the challenges associated with bringing Green into the fold. Despite the turbulent season for Green, who has faced multiple suspensions for confrontations and altercations, his on-court performance remains strong. He is averaging 9.7 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 5.8 assists per game while shooting efficiently from the field and beyond the arc.

While the Lakers might have the capacity to handle a Green trade, the executive casts doubt on whether it aligns with the franchise’s best interests. Green’s contract, behavior, and specific team preferences reportedly limit potential trade destinations. The Lakers, having reached the Western Conference Finals last season and secured an In-Season Tournament victory this season, may be hesitant to disrupt their successful core.

Green’s history of success with the Golden State Warriors, including four NBA titles alongside Stephen Curry, contrasts with his recent outbursts. The executive emphasizes that any potential trade, including with the Lakers, is contingent on Green demonstrating his ability to return to play with the Warriors and avoid further trouble.

Green’s dynamic playing style and occasional controversy make his trade prospects intriguing, but teams, including the Lakers, will closely monitor his future conduct before making any significant moves.

The Lakers Might Not Need Draymond Green

While Draymond Green undeniably brings playmaking, defensive prowess, and leadership to any team, the Los Angeles Lakers may not necessarily need his skill set. With players like LeBron James and Austin Reaves contributing to playmaking, and D’Angelo Russell in the mix, the Lakers already have a solid foundation in that aspect. Furthermore, Anthony Davis serves as a defensive anchor for the team, alleviating the need for additional support in that department.

The Lakers’ current challenges lie more in scoring and shooting, where they rank 24th in offensive rating with 112.2 and 24th in 3-point percentage with 34.8%. Green’s strengths, while valuable, don’t directly address these specific needs. The team’s focus should be on acquiring players who can boost their offensive capabilities and improve their shooting percentages.

While Green has been a pivotal part of the Golden State Warriors success, fitting seamlessly into their system, the Lakers have a different dynamic. The Lakers should exercise caution when considering a player like Green, ensuring that his skill set aligns with their specific requirements. The Lakers’ offensive struggles make it crucial to prioritize players who can enhance scoring efficiency and perimeter shooting.

Ultimately, the decision to pursue Draymond Green should be guided by a thorough evaluation of how well he complements the Lakers’ current roster and addresses their specific weaknesses. The team’s unique needs may not perfectly align with Green’s strengths, and careful consideration is necessary to avoid disrupting the team’s chemistry and style of play.
