Draymond Green: “If You Don’t Have The Mindset That You’re The Best Ever, You Failed Already”

2 Min Read

Whenever we talk about Draymond Green, it’s normally to report some controversy he created because of something he said or did. However, not everything about Draymond is back and he has plenty of good things to offer.

One of the best moments in his career happened last year when he delivered a big speech during the Finals. He talked about what being a competitor means, what people have to learn, and how to feel to be great in basketball.

“I think, as a competitor if you’re trying to do something meaningful, if you don’t have the mindset that you’re the best ever, you failed already. So if you don’t have the mindset that you’re the best ever, then you already failed and that’s being my mindset since I can remember, that will be my mindset as long as I can remember anything, that I am the best ever at what I do and every day that I step on a basketball court I will strive to be that, but my mindset will always be as such, as I am the best to do what I do. Before you can reach anything, you have to believe it, you don’t just mistakenly become great at something. You probably at one time or another believed that you could be great at that, and then you work to get great at that and you reach that greatness, but you don’t mistakenly become great.”

That is a great way to approach the game of basketball and life in general. Draymond delivered a great speech during that press conference and seeing his career and his behavior, Draymond does believe he’s great at what he does. He’s one of the best defenders in the league and his quality helped the Warriors win three titles in the last five years.

This isn’t something common to see from Draymond, but the man always knows how to surprise everybody, for better or worse.
