On social media Saturday, Warriors star and 4x NBA champion Draymond Green shared his thoughts on the viral clip involving WNBA rookie Caitlin Clark and Chennedy Carter of the Chicago Sky.

“Indiana [Fever] better go invest in an enforcer,” wrote Draymond in response to the viral scene.

Clark, who was the No. 1 overall pick this summer for the Indiana Fever, is bringing a lot of buzz and attention to the WNBA since her superstar season at the University of Iowa. After averaging 31.6 points, 8.9 assists, and 7.4 rebounds per game in college, she’s gotten off to a sluggish start in the pros. Even so, she’s shown enough flashes to maintain worldwide interest and it seems to be a source of envy among her peers.

The incident tonight played out during a chippy game between the Fever and Sky, which saw Clark going back and forth against Carter and other defenders. Eventually, the exchange reached its climax with Carter shoving Clark from behind as she screamed expletives in the process.

“Okay, this is hating on Caitlin Clark,” wrote former NFL quarterback Robert Griffin III. “Face guarding, extremely aggressive play and the occasional hard foul can be described as competitiveness. Going out of your way to call her out of her name and body check her to the floor without the ball is hating.”

Carter’s teammate, Angel Reese, was also roasted online for celebrating courtside as she witnessed the hit on Caitlin.

What makes it worse for the Sky, and Chennedy Carter in particular, is their response after the game. Instead of offering an explanation or. an apology, she simply refused to talk about Clark any further and stoked accusations of targeting bullying.

“I ain’t answering no Caitlin Clark questions,” she said after the game. “I don’t know what she said.”

The discourse around the NBA community is surprisingly united on this issue. I, like most, feel the attitude against Clark has been far too extreme and the level of intensity with which she’s being guarded every night is suspiciously brutal. It doesn’t seem normal for any rookie to experience these kinds of plays on a regular basis and former Defensive Player of the Year Draymond Green is just one of many who agrees.

Draymond, who turned 34 in March, and other NBA fans quickly sympathized with Clark, who has lit the sports world on fire with her Stephen Curry-like game. Many fans pointed out that the Indiana Fever, like Draymond suggested, needs a true enforcer to respond in situations like this and send a message to anyone who tries to get too physical.

Considering that she’s not only the Fever’s best player but also the budding face of a rising WNBA, she should be protected more than anything. She needs someone on that team who can stand up for her as Draymond Green has stood up for Steph all of these years.

As a leader, tone-setter, and enforcer for the Warriors, Draymond put a lot of foes in their place over the years and he made sure to stop any ideas of trying to take out any of his star teammates. If he’s calling for the Fever to get an “enforcer” for their star, they should heed his advice and do whatever it takes to make life easier on the court for their top lottery pick.
