Draymond Green quietly became the glue that put everything together for the Golden State Warriors. The big man isn’t the best scorer of all, but he’s key to the team’s offense, being the perfect playmaker for Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, and the rest of the team.

In the beginning, not everybody had high hopes for Draymond, but he proved them wrong with hard work and big games. Green is now a legend of the Warriors after coming a long way from being a bench player to one of the most important players on the team.

Back in 2013, Green made his way to the Warriors’ starting lineup. After being drafted 35th overall in the 2012 NBA draft, Green had to work hard and become the reliable player he is right now.

Draymond Green Recalls How He Made It To Warriors Starting Lineup

During a recent appearance on Checc’n In Podcast, Green discussed a variety of topics, including how poor his mom was while he was growing up. Green also touched on his journey on the Warriors and how he started to make his way to the starting lineup nine years ago (28:42):

“I started some playoff games my second year because David Lee was hurt. But I didn’t really start until my third year. David Lee got hurt in training camp and he was still hurt when the season started. I started. I think we started that year 16-2… Something like that. When David Lee came back, Steve Kerr said [that] we were going to keep starting the way we were starting. But that’s when I ended up starting.”

He took every chance he had and showed his value on the court. The big man slowly became an important player on the Warriors squad and now is a four-time NBA champion, a Defensive Player of the Year, an All-Star, and other things. He waited for his chance, and once he got it, he didn’t blow it. Now, he’s ready to keep his dominance with the Warriors and add a 5th championship to his resume.
