In yet another dramatic twist to Dwight Howard’s post-NBA life, the former Los Angeles Lakers star is making headlines for reasons off the court. His wife, Amber Rose Howard, more popularly known as rapper and reality TV star Amy Luciani has filed for divorce just six months after their January 11, 2025, wedding.
According to court documents obtained by TMZ, Luciani cited that the marriage is “irretrievably broken” and there is “no prospect for reconciliation.”
The news has sent shockwaves through the entertainment and sports communities, particularly because the couple’s relationship had only recently gone public in December 2024, when they announced their engagement via Instagram.
In heartfelt posts that have since been deleted, Howard referred to Luciani as his “perfect person,” and Luciani posted about praying for someone with “the same heart” as hers, before calling Howard the answer to that prayer.
However, that dream appears to have crumbled almost as quickly as it was built. Luciani filed for divorce on July 1 in Georgia, requesting a fair division of all marital assets and property, along with spousal support.
While the legal documents initially triggered rumors of a contentious split with many speculating she was seeking a 50-50 division of Howard’s wealth, Luciani later took to Instagram to defend herself. In a story post, she clarified that she was the one who suggested a prenuptial agreement before the marriage, but Howard had declined.
“With such a private moment like a marriage ending, I truly want to keep a lot of it private. But it’s hard to watch a narrative spreading so quickly about me. So I plan on speaking on this just once.
To this day, I have never asked him for a single dollar, not even 30 cents. Before we got married, I asked to sign a prenuptial agreement. I texted it directly to him.”
“I told him, ‘I want to sign a prenup because I believe what you’ve worked for is yours, and I’m not the type of woman to take what’s not mine.’ I was the one who brought it up first. He declined.
I do not want any of his assets. I do not want half of anything he earned or obtained before me. Not a car. Not his properties. Not a business.
These rumors do not align with my character. Believe it or not, some of us women truly do date and marry for love.”
The clarification was a direct response to internet chatter and accusations that Luciani was attempting to capitalize on Howard’s considerable fortune, amassed over an 18-year NBA career.
The 39-year-old won three Defensive Player of the Year awards and earned over $245 million in NBA contracts alone. He is currently playing in the BIG3 league and was a first-time nominee for the 2025 Basketball Hall of Fame.
This is not the first time Howard’s private life has been under public scrutiny. The former eight-time All-Star is the father of five children with five different women and has had a long history of legal and interpersonal controversies.
Most recently, in 2023, Howard was the subject of a civil lawsuit alleging sexual misconduct, which was later dismissed in 2024.
Amy Luciani, known for her appearances on Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta and her 2023 album Amy’s World, had been trying to maintain some privacy amid the highly publicized fallout.
Despite her request for the court to “equitably” divide marital property, Luciani’s public comments suggest a more amicable exit than headlines might imply. Whether or not the courts follow her stated intent remains to be seen.
One thing’s for sure: for Dwight Howard, 2025 has been anything but quiet.
