The Miami Heat have made their miracle playoff run from the eighth seed to the NBA Finals without one of their primary scorers in Tyler Herro, who got injured early in the first round.

Heat coach Erik Spoelstra was shocked to find out that Herro will be available for selection in Game 5, making a surprised look as the reporter informed him of the same and checking his phone to confirm.

Herro hasn’t checked in during the first half of the game, showing Spoelstra was not altering plans dependent on Herro’s availability. The team has run a strict rotation for the entirety of the playoffs and throwing in an out-of-rhythm Herro won’t necessarily be a boost to Miami’s offense. The Heat lead the game 51-44 at the half.

Will Tyler Herro Get Minutes?

If the Heat couldn’t make a shot and had their offense grind to a standstill, Spoelstra would have used Herro in this first half. The Heat offense has been flowing well, and they currently have a seven-point lead. Herro may make an appearance in the second half, but the team hasn’t had an explicit need for him. His lack of defensive chops will make him a liability at this point, especially with the lack of continuity within rotations.

Herro averaged 20.1 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 4.2 assists during the season and showed his value as a scorer even though the Heat were struggling to win regular season games all year. He can bring a great offensive spark to the Heat, but they have been finding their offense through ball movement and open shooters. If the Nuggets limit that avenue of offense, we might see Herro get some minutes.
