As a proud member of the Boston Celtics, Jayson Tatum has to be feeling pretty good about where his team stands right now. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for his former basketball home at Duke University.
Despite being among the favorites to win the title, Duka just lost the NCAA tournament in a 65-52 loss to Tennessee. After the game, Celtics player Grant Williams made it a point to taunt his teammate, who is pretty proud of his college roots.

Tatum wasn’t a Blue Devil for very long, but it’s fair to say that his time there helped him grow and develop his game into what we see today. And while Duke got sent home early this spring, Tatum is sure to be rooting them on in the years to come.
“This is always home,” said Tatum during a recent visit to the college. “I was an 18-year-old kid when I came into this building and I still got a lot of family over here.”
Clearly, playing for the Blue Devils is something that Tatum holds in very high regard, and things might have gone differently for them if he somehow still played there. But we know that Tatum is on a different mission, and he’s going to need to be completely locked in to come out on top.
Can Tatum Lead The Celtics To A Title?
Even back in his Duke days, the NBA could see what kind of talent he was, and it’s why the Celtics picked him up with the 3rd pick in the 2017 draft. Today, Jayson Tatum has blossomed into a true superstar and is tasked with leading one of the top teams in the East to a championship this season.
He still has things to work on and improve, of course, but by going to the Finals last summer, he proved he has what it takes to go all the way.
“Jayson Tatum is right on schedule for where he needs to be. He’s developing, he’s getting better, he’s turning into more of a leader, and the way he was distributing the ball,” said Richard Jefferson. When you look at [Nikola] Jokic, when you look at Luka [Doncic], when you look at Bron, these guys, their ability to distribute the ball opens things up for them to play one-on-one.
We will find out soon if the Cs have what it takes to complete the mission, but they’re a tough out against anyone with Tatum and Brown on the roster.
