Famous Speech Of 90s Bulls GM Jerry Krause: “Players And Coaches Don’t Win Championships; Organizations Win Championships.”

2 Min Read

Who is it that really wins Championships? Is it the players that compete for them, the coaches that gameplan for them, or the organization which builds for them?

Most would say that while it’s a combination of all three, it’s the players, in the end, that really matter when trying to win a title.

Unless you’re former Bulls GM Jerry Krause, however, According to him, it’s the organization that wins championships.

Krause does deserve some credit for Chicago’s success. He helped build up the team’s talent, found Phil Jackson, and made adjustments to ensure they were at the top of the NBA. He worked hard to look at every scenario and certainly knew what he was doing.

Unfortunately, it seems he underestimated the importance of having players such as Mike, Pippen, and Rodman. He didn’t give them enough credit and, in the end, he was unable to win anything without them.

What makes organizations like the Lakers and Celtics so great is that they build their organization around their players and instilled a culture of mutual respect between both parties.

What we are seeing in “The Last Dance” may be a mistake too many front-offices make in the league today.
