Following another trip to the Olympics, FIBA legend Luis Scola has announced his retirement from professional basketball.
While not the most popular player in the NBA, Scola was a stalwart during his days in Spain with Baskonia and was also one of the most important pieces in the Argentina team that won the Olympic gold medal.
Now, the 10-year NBA veteran will continue his career as the CEO of Italian club Varese, where he finished his playing career:
“It is with pride that Varese Basketball announces a new entry into the Board of Directors: Luis Scola who will hold the role of CEO of the red and white club. This addition embellishes and further consolidates the management fabric of the company and has the aim of making its operational strategies for the near future more and more solid. Scola will be presented to the press on Wednesday 22,” the statement reads, as reported by Talk Basketball.

Scola played for the Argentine national team in 5 different Olympic Games, taking home the gold in Athens 2004 next to Manu Ginobili, Carlos Delfino, and Andres ‘Chapu’ Nocioni, among others.
He’s one of the most respected and beloved figures around world basketball, even leaving the court against Australia with a big round of applause from the Aussies.
