As the Lakers fight to win games on the court, a battle has been raging from within the organization. In one corner are Rob Pelinka, Jeanie Buss, and the Lakers’ front office management. To them, making a panic trade is pointless right now because it wouldn’t make the team instant title contenders.

But for LeBron James, Russell Westbrook, and the entire Lakers fanbase, there is a belief that they can make a meaningful run with just one or two moves.

No matter your own personal beliefs on the matter, every game the Lakers win takes them a step closer to their goals.

On Twitter, Former Laker Rick Fox, a 3x Champion, suggested that the Lakers should take another look at Buddy Hield and Myles Turner instead of letting LeBron and this team fend for themselves.

With @KingJames playing at his usual GOAT level even at 38 imagine if Myles Turner and @buddyhield were @Lakers we appreciate you Thomas Bryant Lets Get @AntDavis23 backs and get this 2023

It’s no secret that the Lakers are holding out their last remaining draft picks for a star, but do they need one to be competitive in the West? If Anthony Davis comes back healthy, and LeBron stays playing at this level, Buddy Hield and Myles Turner might actually be enough to make this team interesting.

Lakers Nearly Struck A Deal With Pacers Before Jeanie Buss Shut It Down

The Lakers have been connected to the Hield/Turner situation since the beginning of the season and those two players are probably among the most realistic trade targets for the Lakeshow right now.

The team nearly had a deal for both until Buss apparently said no.

Westbrook may not be thrilled with the role, but his improved play and intensity speak volumes about his willingness to accept the reality that it’s the right move for this team. This is why Lakers owner Jeanie Buss was known to be reluctant to give up on Westbrook in those days leading into training camp, when they came so close to doing the well-chronicled deal with Indiana [Pacers] that would have sent Westbrook to the Pacers in exchange for big man Myles Turner and sharpshooter Buddy Hield.

In the wild Western Conference, it’s hard to say what makes any team good enough to break out from the rest. In the case of the Lakers, things have certainly not been pretty this season and they did themselves no favors with their horrific start.

But the NBA is a marathon, not a sprint, and the Lakers seem to be finding their stride at the perfect time.
