Russell Westbrook is a future basketball Hall of Famer, there is no doubt about it. For several years, Westbrook was one of the best players in the league. But first season with the Los Angeles Lakers was anything but good. As a result, many wanted the team to trade Russ this season.

Although there were many rumors about Russell Westbrook getting traded to another team, he ended up staying with the Los Angeles Lakers. It was a blessing in disguise for the Lakers, as ever since moving Westbrook to the bench, the Lakers have won several games.

While Westbrook is unlikely to be traded now, one of the biggest rumors around him was getting traded to the Indiana Pacers for Buddy Hield and Myles Turner.

Jeanie Buss Essentially Sabotaged The Lakers’ Chances Of Getting Buddy Hield And Myles Turner

There are Purple and Gold fans who still want Russell Westbrook to be traded and get players like Myles Turner and Buddy Hield in exchange for the former NBA MVP. Well, it seems like that dream was almost fulfilled, but the current owner of the Lakers, Jeanie Buss, simply didn’t want to include Russ in the trade.

Via The Athletic:

Westbrook may not be thrilled with the role, but his improved play and intensity speak volumes about his willingness to accept the reality that it’s the right move for this team. This is why Lakers owner Jeanie Buss was known to be reluctant to give up on Westbrook in those days leading into training camp, when they came so close to doing the well-chronicled deal with Indiana [Pacers] that would have sent Westbrook to the Pacers in exchange for big man Myles Turner and sharpshooter Buddy Hield.

In a way, it’s good for Westbrook that Jeanie Buss showed trust in him amidst getting berated by almost everyone. Hopefully, Russ can now help the Lakers get back into the playoffs, as they are still not in a playoff spot.
