The Houston Rockets are set to embark on a head coach search this summer, as the team needs to get things back on track after another terrible season.

They were still rebuilding this season, but the issues with Stephen Silas made them part ways with the head coach, who won’t be a part of the team at the end of the campaign. Now, they’re looking for a new head coach, and the candidates have the quality to take over.

“Sources say the Rockets’ initial coaching candidates are expected to be Raptors head coach Nick Nurse, Warriors assistant Kenny Atkinson, former Lakers coach Frank Vogel, ex-Hornets coach James Borrego, Raptors assistant Adrian Griffin and ex-Celtics coach Ime Udoka. The Rockets are expected to have a list of about eight candidates, according to sources.”

This will be an interesting summer for the Rockets, who need to find the best pieces to create a competitive team. They have been linked with a move for James Harden, but that seems unlikely right now.

Still, they can make some interesting moves this offseason and perhaps land one of the most hyped prospects of all time, according to The Athletic

“Whoever it is that ultimately fills that role, many questions remain beyond the coaching seat. Will they land Wembanyama in the June 22 draft, or perhaps the presumptive No. 2 pick in Scoot Henderson? There is, sources say, significant pressure on Stone to get this summer right.”

The Rockets have a solid young team that is expected to do good things in the future. However, Stephen Silas wasn’t the man to lead this project.

Stephen Silas Could Never Connect With His Players

The coach reportedly couldn’t connect with his players and even broke down in tears out of frustration. This must have been hard for him, who tried to teach the young guys on the roster how to win little by little.

Now, the focus has shifted. The front office has a lot of work to do to change this. Silas couldn’t get the job done, and the Rockets have a host of candidates to take over and lead them to at least compete for a play-in tournament.
