Despite being handed a loss in the second round of the playoffs this year, Grizzlies point guard Ja Morant isn’t bowing to anyone. Even after watching the very team that beat him win the title, Ja refuses to be silenced.

Instead, he’s speaking proudly and boldly about the future, making promises about his Grizzlies and bouncing back next year. When confronted by a fan over his recent social media activity, Ja made sure to let him know that he’s not going to let money, fame, or success change who he is or what he says.

Morant, 22, just had a breakout season in Memphis. Through 57 games, he averaged 27.4 points, 6.7 assists, and 5.7 rebounds per game on 49% shooting.

For the first time in years, the Grizzlies looked like a real force in the West. They finished 2nd in the standings with a 56-26 record overall and made it to the second round before being kicked out by the Warriors. Through it all, Ja proved himself as one of the elites.

“Some of the finishes that he had in that game, I saw some of the comparisons to Air Jordan. It was absolutely incredible,” said Draymond Green on Morant. “The 1 where I went vertical and he did whatever he did in the air and went underneath that was just 1 of the incredible finishes. It was absolutely insane. I’m going back looking at that like ‘man.’ You just gotta take your hat off to him, he makes some incredible plays.”

Morant is the future of Memphis. His emergence as a star has put the franchise on the map and they could win a title with a few more moves this summer.

Regardless of what is to come, Ja deserves to be celebrated for who he is and what he does on the court. The dude is as real as it gets and isn’t letting all the money get to his head.
