The Philadelphia 76ers have a very unhappy camper in their mix, as James Harden is looking to find a new team this summer. While the 76ers’ front office can choose to trade the expiring contract, it seems Harden has already checked out.

Harden’s Twitter bio used to proudly declare that he was a basketball player for the Philadelphia 76ers, something that has been removed from his social media.

Harden averaged 21.0 points, 6.1 rebounds, and 10.7 assists for the 76ers last season and was optimistic about finalizing a long-term extension this summer. After realizing that the 76ers weren’t willing to pay him what he was entitled to do, he accepted his player option and demanded to be traded, specifically to the Clippers.

With him on an expiring contract, the 76ers need to be careful about how they deal with this, or else Joel Embiid will be next in line with a trade request.

James Harden Has A Lot Of Leverage

Harden has reportedly said he will show up to camp and report to team events despite not being traded, a healthy move from the disgruntled star. The issue will come if Harden looks unmotivated and out-of-shape, which will further drag his price down. Morey cannot keep Harden out of pettiness, as he has a responsibility to help Embiid and give him a roster that can win a title.

Harden doesn’t want to be there, and when Harden doesn’t want to be on a team, he finds a way to make a move. We’ve seen that in his previous two stops, so the 76ers may just end up hurting their franchise if they decide to force Harden to stay on because they don’t want to trade him to the Clippers. No other team will give up any real assets for the expiring contract, who could just leave whichever team he joins in the summer.
