Jaren Jackson Jr. and Dillon Brooks will face off for the first time on Sunday, and Jackson wants his former Memphis Grizzlies teammate to talk some trash. Team USA will take on Canada on Sunday with the bronze medal on the line, and Jackson doesn’t want Brooks to be quiet.
“I hope Dillon does talk trash,” Jaren Jackson Jr. said. “Otherwise it wouldn’t be him. It wouldn’t be real.”
I don’t think Jackson has to hope for it, as Brooks certainly will talk. He’s been talking for much of this tournament, and it even got him ejected in the game against Slovenia in the quarterfinals.
He might, in fact, talk a bit more trash than he has all tournament, as he will be going up against many familiar faces with whom he has battled in the past. Brooks would also be quite frustrated after Canada missed out on the chance to get to the Final.
Dillon Brooks Believes He Is The Best Defender In The World
The new Houston Rockets forward has been running his mouth a lot during the World Cup. Brooks called himself the best perimeter defender in the world, and he’ll get a chance to show just how good he is when he faces off against Team USA.
Anthony Edwards has been by far the best player for the U.S. at the World Cup, and slowing down the Minnesota Timberwolves star would be some way to back up all that talk. It is easier said than done, though.
Brooks has ruthlessly been mocked by fans during the tournament, but the 27-year-old has played well. He has averaged 11.7 points, 2.7 rebounds, 2.3 assists, and 1.3 steals per game, and was immense in their must-win contest against Spain where he had 22 points.
Jaren Jackson Jr. Would Be Hoping To End A Disastrous Tournament On A High
While Brooks has had a pretty decent tournament, the same cannot be said about Jackson. A lot of the blame has been put on his shoulders for the team not getting to the Final.
In the last four games, Jackson has grabbed a total of seven rebounds, and he is averaging just 2.9 rebounds per game in the tournament. For someone listed as 6’11”, that is simply unacceptable.
The rest of his game hasn’t been particularly great either, and Jackson didn’t have much to say about the fan backlash over his performances at the World Cup. Should he fail to perform against Canada, it’s only going to get worse.
Jackson can hopefully make amends with a strong showing to close out the tournament. The biggest weakness for the Canadians is their bigs and the 23-year-old should be able to dominate against them.
