Dillon Brooks is known for saying some outrageous things, and the latest claim in that category has just arrived. Canada recently advanced to the semifinals of the FIBA World Cup after beating Luka Doncic and Slovenia.

And Dillon Brooks is feeling so good about his game after that result, that he has come out and said there isn’t anyone better at perimeter defense than him.

“I’m the best perimeter defender in this tournament, in the world, in the NBA,” Brooks said.

After his comments about not being scared of LeBron James backfired during the 2023 NBA playoffs, it seems that Brooks has not learned his lesson about mouthing off yet.

It would be one thing for the 27-year-old to have made this claim if Canada won the tournament, but to do so while it’s going on is quite bizarre. If Dillon Brooks cannot contain his upcoming opponents, the trolling is likely to be unstoppable.

Luka Doncic Gave Dillon Brooks His Flowers After Slovenia’s Loss

Luka Doncic is one of the best players in the world right now, and Dillon Brooks was able to hold him to 26 points on 8-20 shooting during Canada’s impressive win over Slovenia.

While he didn’t go as far as to call him the best perimeter defender in the world, Luka Doncic was quick to praise Dillon Brooks for his defense after the game.

“I think Dillon played great. He was very physical like he always does. A lot of people don’t like him, but I respect him for what he does and he does that stuff really good.”

The Memphis Grizzlies let Dillon Brooks walk in free agency, and the speculation was that it came to be due to his penchant for talking too much. He’s getting the respect he wants now.

Regardless, the Houston Rockets man should be very careful with his words. Fans are always willing to troll Brooks or any players that get cocky, and the game of basketball is truly unpredictable. He needs to back this statement up immediately.

NBA Fans Reacted To Dillon Brooks Calling Himself The Best Perimeter Defender

The game of basketball has moved further away from the basket as it has developed in the modern era, and perimeter defenders have become increasingly valuable. Dillon Brooks is a great player, but this statement was always going to invite fans to roast him.

Dillon Brooks is good at what he does, but the NBA and the world have some other top perimeter defenders. Lu Dort is highly respected, and one fan pointed out he might be better than Brooks on his own team.

Is he even the best on Team Canada? Lu Dort is right there! https://t.co/Ikl3UabaTA

LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers shut Dillon Brooks up in style during the playoffs, and one fan simply wanted to remind Brooks of what happens when he talks too much.

And while most fans were intent on clowning Dillon Brooks on his take, one fan did say that he at least has a case to be considered the best.

I don’t know if I’d say he is literally “the best.” However, I do think he is much closer to that than most people would probably admit. https://t.co/JDPmBxU74l

The one thing no one can take away from Dillon Brooks is his confidence. He likely knows that this statement will invite ridicule, but it doesn’t seem to bother him. The hope will be that he can actually back it up, that would be amazing to witness.
