Jaylen Brown backed his teammate Grant Williams who missed both his free throws in the team’s loss against the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Speaking to the media in the aftermath of the 118-114 loss, Brown defended Williams. Per The Athletic’s Jay King: “Grant has had a great career,” he said. “The reason why he’s been successful is because of his confidence. And now is one of the moments where his confidence is going to be tested.”

“A lot of people are now seeing some of the adversity he’s going through. And you’ve gotta respond as a man. You’ve gotta be better. You can’t let it take you down. You can look at it and go two different ways. You can go up or you can go down. I want him to go up.”

No one perhaps understands the agony of missing the shots from the charity stripe better than Brown. The guard garnered immense flak for missing his own two FTs against the New York Knicks earlier this year.

On the game front, the Cavaliers rode on Donovan Mitchell’s dominant 40-point performance studded with 5 rebounds and 12 assists. For Boston, Brown had 32 points to show, while Malcolm Brogdon chipped in with 24.

Not the one to mince words, Brown was vocal in his thoughts about the team’s embarrassing loss. While he lauded the effort, he called on his team to do better, especially as the regular season inches to a close.

“That was a valiant effort. There are no moral victories in this s–t. We got to win games. Period. We’ve got to be better,” Brown explained.

Brown has been a vital cog in the Boston outfit averaging 26.6 points, 7.0 rebounds, and 3.3 assists this season. He’s played his part in the team’s second-place run in the East. Despite him being on top of his game, the Celtics have suffered some losses in recent times.

With three consecutive games down the drain, the Celtics have looked wobbly, but it’s unlikely that they will be pressing the panic button just yet. The team has been in situations where they have come out all cylinders firing, and they will be keen to arrest their losing slide.
