2024 NBA Finals MVP Jaylen Brown was in attendance for the 2016 NBA Finals as a young prospect before he entered the NBA. Brown can be seen on video being in awe of the environment at the Oakland Arena. He then expressed his desire to play on the NBA Finals stage and claimed that he would do so one day.
“I’m Jaylen Brown, California, Berkeley right up the street. I can’t wait to see the Finals. One day I want to be in the same situation as these guys. I’m watching Steph Curry warm up, watching Andre Iguodala warm up, right now I’m feeling excited… I want to get here so bad. I will be here.”

If Brown could know now exactly how his career went while watching that series, he would struggle to believe it. He got to play with one of the stars he was watching in the NBA Finals, Kyrie Irving, while on the Celtics a few years after he got drafted. Brown would even win his first NBA championship by beating Irving, who left him and the Celtics just a few years later.
On top of that, Brown got to watch the Warriors in the NBA Finals in 2016 and then got the chance to compete against them on the same stage in 2022. While his first go-around in the NBA Finals did not work out the way he had hoped, Brown will be proud of himself for what he managed to accomplish tonight with the Celtics.
Jaylen Brown Once Revealed His Teacher Thought He Would Be In Prison
Jaylen Brown has had an incredible journey all the way to becoming an NBA champion and Finals MVP. In 2014, Brown shared a post on X about his teacher telling him that she would look him up at Cobb County Jail in Marietta, Georgia, where Brown attended high school.
“My teacher said she will look me up in the Cobb County jail in 5 years… Wow.”
Jaylen Brown tweeted this before getting drafted to the NBA.

Brown has proven his teacher, and all his other critics wrong tonight, becoming an NBA champion and Finals MVP for the first time in his career. Brown has dealt with a lot of detractors over the last few years.
Last year, Brown signed a five-year, $286 million contract extension with the Celtics, which made him the highest-paid player in NBA history. A lot of fans criticized him, as he had not found any material success in the NBA at that point. But with this Finals performance, Brown has proven a lot of people wrong.
During this series, Brown averaged 20.8 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 5.0 assists in the NBA Finals, shooting 44% from the field, and 23.8% from the three-point line. He was the most consistent performer for the Celtics and deserved to win Finals MVP over his other teammates.
For Brown and the Celtics, now is the time to celebrate, as they have achieved their ultimate goal. Fans in Boston will prepare for their parade, which is coming soon, as the Celtics will paint the town Green again for the first time since 2008.
