- Jayson Tatum wants to be part of the Mount Rushmore for the Boston Celtics
- Tatum understands that he needs to win a championship
- The Boston Celtics have the talent to win it all
As of right now, the Boston Celtics are on of the top contenders in the league. That is largely due to the presence of superstar Jayson Tatum on the roster, and there’s no doubt that they have a good chance to win a championship next season.
Recently, Jayson Tatum opened up on his aspirations to potentially become a legend for the Boston Celtics such as players like Larry Bird and Bill Russell. Tatum understands that to do that he has to win a championship, and Tatum noted that he wants to be “known as a winner”.
“I would love to be on the Mount Rushmore of Celtics,” he told Jeff Goodman of The Messenger. “[Larry] Bird, [Bill] Russell, Paul Pierce and those guys. They paved the way. The one thing all those guys have is chips. I have to get to the top of the mountain to even be considered as one of those guys. I want to be an all-time great, I want to be known as a winner, and I believe I will be.”
There is no doubt that Jayson Tatum has the talent and ability to lead the Boston Celtics to an NBA championship. The front office has surrounded him with a number of elite players such as Jaylen Brown and Kristaps Porzingis. The team has enough to win it all during this upcoming season, and it is up to Tatum to get them over the hump.
This past season, Jayson Tatum averaged 30.1 points, 8.8 rebounds, 4.6 assists per game, while shooting 35.0% from 3PT range. He is clearly an All-NBA talent, and we’ll see if he can elevate himself even further.
Jayson Tatum Knows Winning The Championship Is A Process
Jayson Tatum has achieved a lot of success with the Boston Celtics, reaching the 2022 NBA Finals and making three Eastern Conference Finals appearances. Recently, Jayson Tatum sent a message to the haters after the Celtics’ 2023 playoff collapse, pointing out that the championship is the ultimate goal, but noting that the team has “gotten better” over the years.
“That is the ultimate goal, but you can’t bypass all the things we’ve accomplished in the six years we’ve been teammates at a very young age. We’ve been to the playoffs every single year, we’ve gotten better.”
It remains to be seen if this version of the Boston Celtics can win the championship. Though they will be one of the favorites, nothing is guaranteed, as an element of luck is required to win in the NBA.
Patrick Beverley Doesn’t Think Jayson Tatum And Jaylen Brown Can Win A Championship Together
Though talent is required to win a championship, fit is an important aspect of winning as well. Patrick Beverley explained that Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown cannot win a title together, as they do not “compliment each other enough”.
“Too much of the same player, they don’t compliment each other enough… they compliment each other but not enough.”
Hopefully, we see Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown win a championship and prove the haters wrong in the future. Kristaps Porzingis could help them do so, and we’ll see what happens in the future.
