Karl-Anthony Towns Fires Back At Stephen A. Smith For Saying He Was “Classless” In Taunting Russell Westbrook: “When We Have A Little Fun With The Game, Now We’re Being Classless.”

Karl-Anthony Towns is one of the best big men in the league, and he is regarded by many as the greatest shooting big to ever play. Currently, Karl-Anthony Towns is averaging 24.9 PPG, 9.9 RPG, and 3.7 APG while shooting 40.8% from beyond the arc.

The Minnesota Timberwolves have been a very good team under Karl-Anthony Towns’ leadership this year, and they’re currently the 7th seed with a 42-30 record. They have recently gotten wins against the Milwaukee Bucks and the Los Angeles Lakers, and it’s clear that they’re a dangerous team.

During the Timberwolves-Lakers game, Karl-Anthony Towns and Patrick Beverley mercilessly taunted Russell Westbrook throughout the game. Prominent NBA analyst Stephen A. Smith claimed that the move was classless.

“He is clearly having an absolutely, positively miserable season; the worst season of his career. But to mock him like that, I was like, ‘Damn, that’s kind of classless y’all. Y’all can do better than that, especially when you’re Minnesota and you ain’t been doing anything for the better part of the last two decades. … It was a little excessive. A little bit unclassy, I might say.”

Karl-Anthony Towns has recently responded to Stephen A. Smith’s comments, and he was clearly not happy about the “classless” label Smith ascribed to his action. He pointed out that the team was just having “fun with the game”.

Karl-Anthony Towns: "It was all good when people was fitting narratives about me and talking about Pat [Beverley] and stuff. Oh, it was cool, right? It was cool! It was funny, right? 'HA HA HA!' Fuck outta here, man. Stop it." pic.twitter.com/zTdfzymqRG

Now when we have a little fun with the game, now we’re being classless… It’s cool though I understand. It was cool when people were doing this (cojones celebration) in people’s face right? It was cool right? Aight, things came back to bite.

It was all good when people was fitting narratives about me and talking about Pat [Beverley] and stuff. Oh, it was cool, right? It was cool! It was funny, right? ‘HA HA HA!’ F*ck outta here, man. Stop it.

There is no doubt that Karl-Anthony Towns is fed up with the situation. Trash talking is part of the game, and it’s not as if Karl-Anthony Towns or Patrick Beverley did anything truly socially unacceptable.

It is clear that the Minnesota Timberwolves have different confidence about them now, and they will be a difficult matchup for any Western Conference contender this season if they end up making the playoffs. A lot of that is due to Karl-Anthony Towns’ play, and hopefully, he is able to continue on the same level in the postseason.
