The Brooklyn Nets ended their four-game road trip with an emphatic 116-104 victory against the Detroit Pistons. Kevin Durant led the charge once again, this time registering a season-high 51 points in 41 minutes.

On a night where James Harden was rested, Durant played for 41 minutes and scored almost half of the Nets’ total points.

51 points in the NBA is impressive, and social media has been buzzing since the performance. In response to a post that read, “Kevin Durant takes over the NBA’s season-high scoring performance from Steph Curry with his 51st point of the night,” a Bay Area reporter replied:

“Notice Durant not being double or triple-teamed here. Interesting decision by Detroit. #DubNation.”

Fans came for the reporter, prompting her to send out another tweet explaining her earlier comment.

“FYI – Never said KD wasn’t being doubled all game, just said it was interesting on this possession. After scoring 49 you’d think he wouldn’t be able to drop in the floater without at least 2 defenders in his face.”

At this point, it was already too late, as Durant entered the conversation and, well, was Durant. He replied with an image which had the text:

“Hold this L.”

Durant always stands up for himself on social media, which is why his response is not surprising. Sometime last month, he engaged fans in a back-and-forth after Isaiah Thomas pointed out his ashy ankles through an image that was meant to show his shoes. KD went into the archives, unleashing the legendary “I am not a role model” line made popular by Charles Barkley in 1993.

The Warriors have already defeated the Nets this season, with Steph posting a game-high 31 points, while Draymond Green did an excellent job limiting Durant’s efficiency, limiting him to only 19 points on 6-of-19 shooting from the field. Both teams will face off one more time in the regular season on January 29.
