Klay Thompson turned his jets on to lead the Golden State Warriors to a resounding 127-100 win against the Los Angeles Lakers in Game 2, and now he has every reason to look forward to heading to LA and balling out at the Crypto.com Arena.

“I have so much respect for just the opportunity ahead for me,” Thompson told the media in the aftermath of the win.

“I’m a huge Kobe fan, he’s my biggest inspiration and I’m just going to play my hardest to honestly honor him and Gigi because without his play and all those years of me viewing his tenacity on the court, I would not be the athlete I am today.”

He further added: “I’m going to be myself, I’m going to play hard on both ends, I’m going to hunt great shots,” Thompson said. “From a life standpoint, it’s such an incredible experience to play in front of my friends and family.”

“I would go to Staples [Center] as a high school basketball player with my pops, just dreaming of playing on that floor, playing against the best in the world. To be here and be a part of it, I don’t lose sight of that perspective of how great this opportunity is and I’m just excited to do it in a building where all my hoop dreams came out.”

Thompson, an LA native spent his formative years attending Lakers games. His father, Mychal played for the Lakers and currently serves as the radio commentator for the organization.

The 33-year-old will surely be a threat to the Lakers in Game 3, but safe to say, his intent to honor Kobe and Gigi will be well-respected by the Lakers faithful.

Klay Thompson Has Been Waiting For 12 Years To Face The Los Angeles Lakers In The Playoffs

Klay Thompson is one of the Warriors stars relishing the LA challenge. In fact, the guard even publicly added that he was waiting for 12 years to face the purple and gold in the playoffs.

“I know I am personally excited that I get to play in front of my father, mother, my best friends, and go down to SoCal after our home stand. It’s just a dream come true, I’ve waited for this for 12 years,” Thompson said.

The Warriors will now look to continue to build on the momentum they generated from Game 2 and look to take the lead when they face off against the Lakers again. Expect Game 3 to be a cracking contest.
