There is something about the purple and gold of the Lakers that attracts fans from around the world. The same can be said about LeBron James, one of the biggest faces in basketball over the last two decades.

French soccer sensation Kylian Mbappe revealed before the 2022 NBA Draft that his favorite player was LeBron and his favorite team was the Lakers, even saying he hoped the Lakers made it to the NBA Finals in 2023.

“LeBron James. Lakers. Of course I am going to say the Lakers.”

Mbappe’s wishes in the summer of 2022 seemed crazy, as there were doubts about whether the Lakers can even make it into the play-in tournament. Ultimately, the Lakers surprised everyone and used one trade to go from out of the play-in to the Western Conference Finals.

NBA Contracts Put To Shame By Kylian Mbappe

Kylian Mbappe has been the talk of the NBA world after details of a contract offer from Saudi Arabian club Al Ahli were leaked. Mbappe has reportedly been offered north of $700 million for a one-year commitment with the Arabian club, easily the richest contract offer in sports history.

Giannis Antetokounmpo and LeBron have both discussed this offer, implying they’d drop everything and take the money. Such an offer would be nearly impossible to refuse, given it means Mbappe will make more money next season than 15 of the highest-paid players in the league. This contract will alone pay him almost $200 million more than LeBron himself has made in NBA contracts over his career.

Sports is a thriving business and NBA players will hope they can one day command the same ludicrous sums of money soccer players can earn.
