Kyrie Irving is one of the top players in his position in the NBA. As a result, many expected him to make things work with the Brooklyn Nets. Unfortunately, after giving it almost four years, Irving decided to demand a trade earlier this season.
Irving’s demand was fulfilled as he was traded to the Dallas Mavericks around the NBA trade deadline. The 2016 NBA champion recently opened up on how it felt to be traded midseason for the first time in his career.
“Me getting traded midseason … I didn’t expect to ask for a trade at that point in the season. So I wanted to finish out with Brooklyn, finish out with the season that we had going and I didn’t get a chance to do that. So some of the goals I had previously this season had to be shifted, and 1 had to be more than willing, which I am, to be flexible and adaptable and live with the results, whether we make the playoffs or not. I just have to be at peace with where I am and which I am, and trust of the guys that I’m going to be in that war room with every single day. So, I’m appreciative of them giving me the opportunity. It’s been nothing but great here. And l’ve been at peace. So it’s been good, outside outside of the losses, of course. We’d like to win every game.”
This is Kyrie Irving’s very long (and thoughtful) answer to what its been like being traded midseason for the first time in his career, which is where the “it kind of looks like a little bit of a clusterfuck” quote came from. pic.twitter.com/Pt5jHtC9MU

Kyrie Irving’s response to getting traded midseason was emotional, to say the least. Even after getting traded, Kyrie is still stuck in a bad place as the Dallas Mavericks are currently 37-40 in the season and hold the 11th seed in the Western Conference.
Moreover, Irving’s full answer also clears the air around his recent NSFW comments about the Mavericks’ dwindling playoff hopes. The 31-year-old was somewhat misunderstood by the media and fans when he shared his disappointment with where the team is right now.
Should Kyrie Irving Be Blamed For The Dallas Mavericks’ Struggles This Season?
When Kyrie Irving was traded to the Mavs, the team was four games above the .500 mark. Evidently, fans were expecting them to only get better from there.
Unfortunately, quite the opposite has happened as the Mavericks are currently three games below .500. But does Kyrie deserve the entire blame for the Mavericks’ struggles this season? Well, former NBA player Matt Barnes certainly believes so.
“It just seems like everywhere Kyrie goes, there is an issue everywhere Kyrie goes,” Barnes said. “Now, that could be a coincidence, or it could be that Kyrie is the issue. Again, as great a talent he is, a top-five talent no doubt, but it just seems like every time he makes a pit stop, s**t gets f****d up.”
On an individual level, Irving is having a great season. He is currently averaging 26.1 PPG, 5.2 RPG, and 5.9 APG since joining the Mavericks.
But those numbers won’t satisfy the fanbase if Dallas ends up missing the play-in tournament. Considering the team has gotten worse post Kyrie’s arrival, he may have to shoulder the burden, regardless.
