LeBron James Explains Why Anthony Davis Should Win Defensive Player Of The Year Award

2 Min Read

They haven’t been teammates for very long, but the chemistry between LeBron James and Anthony Davis is like they’ve been together for years. And, as they lead their team through the competition this season, it’s clear the love and respect for each other’s games are profound.

Of his superstar teammate, LeBron recently made the case that he should be this season’s Defensive Player of the Year.

“He does everything,” James said of Davis, via ESPN Los Angeles. “He’s able to protect the rim, he’s able to guard in the post, he’s able to switch out on guards, he’s able to block shots from guys shooting floaters and runners, he gets steals, I mean he does everything defensively for us. That’s why he’s Defensive Player of the Year.”

It is true that Davis does a little bit of everything for L.A. On the defensive end, he is capable of guarding inside and out. He’s averaging 2.5 blocks and 1.6 steals per game as he sets the tone for the team’s defense (rated third best in the league).

Of course, he’s got some steep competition for the award, going against guys like Rudy Gobert, Hassan Whiteside, and Kawhi Leonard. But no matter what happens between now and April, LeBron James will be advocating for his teammate, and friend, all along the way.
