The Lakers were handed a massive blow yesterday, as it was revealed that LeBron James had caught COVID-19, and had entered the NBA’s health and safety protocols. James is expected to miss several games, something that the Lakers can’t really afford right now. But it appears James is not suffering from any symptoms at the moment.

It was revealed by analyst Michael J. Babcock that James actually had to be tested three times in order to confirm the COVID-19 diagnosis. The first was a lateral flow test which came back positive. The second was an RT-PCR test that came back negative. Finally, James had to take a third tiebreaker test that came back negative.

It was also revealed that LeBron James is currently asymptomatic, and the Lakers chartered a private jet to take him back to Los Angeles to isolate. James being asymptomatic is good news for the Lakers, as many players last season were massively affected after suffering from COVID-19.

Fans will remember the effect COVID-19 had on players like Kevin Durant, who needed a few games even upon his return to regain his form.

This is because of the negative effects the virus had on these players’ bodies. On top of that, the long isolation period meant that they couldn’t play and lost their rhythm and momentum, needing a way to get it back.

The Lakers showed that they can win without James last night, blowing out the Sacramento Kings in Sacramento. This performance is being heralded by fans as arguably the best Lakers’ performance this season. The team looked locked in on both ends of the court and went on an incredible rally in the second half to get the win.

The Lakers will have to repeat these performances on a regular and consistent basis while James is away. LeBron has shown an incredible ability to regain form quickly after a long absence.

But the Lakers need the rest of their team to get their reps in together and find the form they so desperately need if they want to win a championship this season.
