LeBron James made history yet again on Saturday night, as he became the first player to ever score 40,000 points in the NBA. It took him 368 games to go from 30,000 to 40,000, which is incidentally the same number of games it took him to score his first 10,000 points, as per Ben Golliver.

– 20K to 30K in 381 games
– 30K to 40K in 368 games
That’s remarkable consistency right there from James. You would have expected the number of games needed to go up as he ages, but it has basically been the same throughout his career.
It should be no surprise when you look at that consistency, that James has averaged 27 points per game for every team he played for and on every day of the week. For 21 seasons, we have basically known what to expect from LeBron on a nightly basis.
We are not going to see this combination of excellence and longevity maybe ever. It is why you should appreciate LeBron for as long as he is around, as he inches closer to the end. Even Larry Bird wants people to stop whining about James and just enjoy watching him while he is still playing.
Paul Pierce Thinks LeBron James Will Finish With 45K Points
It is safe to say that the 39-year-old LeBron is not going to be playing enough games to get to 50,000 points. Even he would take way more than 400 games to get there and that would be a bit much. So, how many might he end up with? Well, Paul Pierce thinks James will score 45,000 points in his NBA career.
“He gon’ finish with more than that,” Paul Pierce said after Kevin Garnett indicated that James will retire with 41,000 points. “How many he got now? Yeah, he gon’ end up with like 45,000.”
That is a pretty fair estimate and I too believe LeBron, who is averaging 25.3 points, 7.0 rebounds, 7.9 assists, 1.3 steals, and 0.6 blocks per game this season, would finish around about at that number. It would also mean that the scoring record would be beyond reach for anyone else, as getting to 40,000 alone would have been almost impossible.
Anthony Davis also doesn’t think anybody will break LeBron’s scoring record. You think someone like Luka Doncic could do it, but the Slovenian himself doesn’t believe he will. Doncic said he won’t play 20 years to break James’ record, and that’s going to be the case for a lot of other superstars as well.
Kendrick Perkins Wants The Lakers To Build A Statue Of LeBron James
LeBron has now accomplished two major scoring feats as a Laker. He surpassed Kareem Abdul-Jabbar to become the NBA’s all-time leading scorer as a member of the Los Angeles Lakers and now hit this 40,000 milestone with them. Those feats combined with the championship he won with the franchise led to Kendrick Perkins demanding the Lakers build a statue of LeBron.
