The Dallas Mavericks went all in to make the blockbuster for Kyrie Irving around the NBA trade deadline. The team gave up several valuable assets to create the dynamic duo of Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving.

But the first five games featuring the duo haven’t gone well for the Dallas Mavericks. The Mavericks are 1-4 in the games that the duo has played together. The most recent defeat came against the Indiana Pacers, where Kyrie missed a chance at winning the game for the Mavs. While Irving was berated by the fans for the miss, Luka showed full trust in him.

“It was a good shot, I think,” Luka said. “It’s Kyrie. He can make a lot of those shots. So, we trust him.”

Considering Kyrie Irving had a forgettable outing where he recorded 16 points, 5 rebounds, and 9 assists. But the 30-year-old shot 7-18 from the floor and went 0-4 from the deep.

Keeping that in mind, had Luka Doncic attempted the final shot of the game, the end result could have been different. Despite that, Doncic showed complete trust in his new teammate.

Luka Doncic Wants The Entire Team To Be Accountable For Losses

Luka Doncic is just 24 years old, but he is still the leader of the Dallas Mavericks. All players on the team look up to him, and when required, Luka issues strong messages to help the team stay focused.

Following the defeat against the Indiana Pacers, Doncic urged the media to talk about the entire team.

“I think we should be talking about the whole team, you know, because we play as a team,” Doncic said. “We lose, we win as a team. So, it’s not just about two players, it’s about the whole team. So, we got to do better as a team. That’s it.” (starts at 0:50)

Doncic made sure to keep the focus on the entire team instead of just him and Kyrie. But at the end of the day, if the Mavericks do not produce good results, the duo will catch more heat than the entire team.

The Mavericks are currently 32-31 and hold the 7th seed in the Western Conference. With just 19 games left to be played in the season, it’s high time for the Mavs to improve their record.
