The Los Angeles Lakers have been one of the most disappointing teams in basketball this year. They were widely expected to be a championship-caliber team based on the amount of star power on the roster, but they have simply been unable to make things work.

Magic Johnson is a respected legend among Los Angeles Lakers fans. He has clearly been disappointed with the team’s performances and has previously called the team out for lack of effort. Recently, Magic Johnson went on the show First Take and blasted the Los Angeles Lakers, telling the team to “quit making excuses”. (5:15)

Molly Qerim: We know about the injuries. Tell me this, what went wrong for the Lakers?

Magic Johnson: That can’t be the excuse, though, Molly, because AD was out last year and we made the play-in game and we made the playoffs… Accountability is big here, and the Lakers all season have not taken accountability.”

“Whether that’s individual play, whether that’s on the defensive end, whether that’s playing together, Stephen A., my problem is with them making all these excuses, making excuses again. Quit making excuses! This thing did not work out, the parts did not fit.”

Last but not least, it’s not all on Frank Vogel… If the players don’t say I gotta get better next season, because Stephen A. they’re coming back with the same team… The core 3 is gonna have to come back… They’re gonna have to say “We’ve got to work this thing out”.

There is no doubt that the Los Angeles Lakers need to find a way to get better as a unit prior to the start of next season. They had a fair amount of talent, but the team has not gelled in the right way.

Hopefully, the Los Angeles Lakers are able to become that championship contending team that everyone thought they would be this year. Perhaps an offseason will help the stars develop better chemistry, and maybe some changes to the supporting cast can help the team improve as well.
