The 2024 All-Star Game will be hosted by Indiana. The city will be thrilled about hosting the game at home but will also be hoping to see one of their players at the game. Tyrese Haliburton already made last year’s All-Star game and will be looking to continue doing so in 2024, but Myles Turner is aiming for his first career All-Star selection this season.

“I’m excited for the All-Star Game, obviously. That’s gonna be in Indiana this year. Y’all gonna see me there, by the way. You heard it here first.”

Hometown players have been consistently making All-Star teams in recent seasons, but the merit behind their selections cannot be doubted.

Utah hosted the game last year and saw Lauri Markkanen on the roster, The 2022 edition was held in Cleveland and saw both Darius Garland and Jarrett Allen named to the team.

Atlanta hosted the game in 2021 and had Trae Young on the team, though it was an atypical All-Star weekend with minimal fans in the heat of COVID. Indiana was initially supposed to host the 2021 All-Star game.

Can Myles Turner Be An All-Star?

From a skill perspective, it’s a surprise that Turner hasn’t already emerged among the league’s best centers. He is the perfect modern big man, shooting the ball at a very effective clip from three-point range while also being one of the best shot-blockers in the NBA. Unfortunately, he’s never been an All-Star because it’s impossible for him to stay healthy.

He hasn’t played more than 62 games a season in the last four years, a concerning trend for a seven-footer. He had the best individual season of his career last season, averaging 18.0 points (career-high), 7.5 rebounds, and 2.3 blocks. Now, if the Pacers can be a playoff team, there is a genuine chance that Turner can be named to the team.

Tyrese Haliburton will be running the show and will likely be an All-Star next season. His two-man game with Turner has been very good over the last season, so there is a chance that Turner used Haliburton’s excellent playmaking skills to continue taking steps forward offensively. His defense is rock-solid, so maybe further polishing his offensive contribution is what will tip the scales in his favor for a 2024 All-Star berth.

Myles Turner Thinks Joel Embiid Is Easier To Control Than Nikola Jokic

If Turner wants to be an All-Star, he will have to compete against the best center in the world. While he isn’t close to the level Joel Embiid and Nikola Jokic are on, he’s played them enough times to make a clear distinction between the last two league MVPs.

“When Jokic goes out there, it’s like he’s painting himself on that canvas… Embiid you can control a little more, Jokic it’s like there’s stuff that’s out of your control.”

These Turner comments are extremely bold given how he has struggled against the Philadelphia 76ers in the Joel Embiid era. Turner averaged 9.5 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 1.5 blocks against Embiid while shooting a very low 41.3% as a seven-footer. Given he is 4-9 in 13 games against Embiid, it may be ideal for him to not make such comments.

Turner fares much better against Jokic, averaging 14.3 points, 6.9 rebounds, and 2.3 blocks. His record is slightly worse against Jokic, going 3-9 in 12 matchups.
